(Apologies for the long wait and ridiculously bare minimum of an update [in the fan fiction section], I was so busy. But I'm getting off-topic, back to my blog article!)
Fans familiar with this the home page of this website will note that I have noted vaseshipping as a "rare pairing". Indeed with the high popularity of some pairings involving Atem or Mana such as puzzleshipping, prideshipping, revolutionshipping, and apprenticeshipping, it most certainly seems vaseshipping has been overlooked.
Or so it may seem. Maybe it is no longer rare, but rather,
noteworthy.
Just recently, in the "Oh my God!..." vaseshipping thread, there was a small discussion about the rise of the vaseshipping fandom among
Yu-Gi-Oh! fans. Vegalmidragon was kind to inform us of the rise of vaseshipping-relates stories, the number rising up by 22 from 69 stories in total. This is an increase of 31.8%. Indeed, a double-digit increase both in the raw data and the derived percentage: very impressive. :D And with observing the appearance of some new writers coming onto the scene, it makes me think that perhaps vaseshipping will eventually come to day when it can be enjoyed and appreciated with the same (or at least close to) the status of some of the major YGO shippings out there.
If you're not a big reader of my blog (yes, I get it, me talking about updates to the website are sometimes boring and pointless), try to look back to an earlier blog article entitled
Vaseshipping and the Fan Fiction Plot Trope
(written on February 10, 2009). If you have read it, you will recall how I commented on the feasibility of vaseshipping being considered more of the norm due to the idea of the hiding-in-a-vase as a cliché, which otherwise hints at the idea of the acceptance of vaseshipping among the YGO community.
Just to say, here comes another possible hint towards the acceptance of vaseshipping: here, taken from the TV Tropes article Wild Mass Guessing article (a list of assumptions made by fans) of
Yu-Gi-Oh! itself - the one us vaseshipping fans are interested in particular is one about Mana using Atem as a personal living dress-up doll (ROFLMAO) which is stated as follows:
<article>
Atem allowed Mana to use him as a dress-up doll
There are probably other reasons why he's wearing enough gold
accessories to destabilize a small country's economy, but none that are
cuter.
- He's a pharaoh. We may not know how pharaohs dressed
day-to-day, but have you ever seen the stuff Tut was buried with? The
gilding on Tut's coffin? Its practically the uniform of the job.
- Then again, Tut also had a girl of a similar age he was close to. Coincidence? Yes. Or Is It?
</article>
Notice the addition of the "Or Is It?" trope article link attached to the statement of the parallelism between Tut having a girl close to him with Atem having Mana near his side. Dare I suggest this is another hint of favoritism towards vaseshipping? Maybe it is, fellow vaseshipping fans, maybe it is. :3
